Repeated areas of DNA and associated proteins, accompanied by known reversal enzymes in the fage, were found and identified as unresolved enzyme systems.Anthropic's AI "Claude" found clues from array data, and human researchers conducted additional analysis and experiments.

Reduce reversal enzyme candidates from a massive DNA array

Anthropic instructed AI "Claude" to search for interesting reverse enzymes from a large DNA array database.Claude's agent examined the reverse enzyme system and selected a promising candidate.

The investigation by agents of 950 lasted about 21 and the tokens used reached 2億1000. The agents collected more than 20 million reversible enzymes and analyzed the 20 candidates from the new enzyme candidate of 3500.

Find a repetitive sequence next to a known enzyme gene

The agents who examined one of the candidates found a repetitive pattern of the DNA array adjacent to the characteristic reversible enzyme gene. The subject reversible enzyme was present in the Jambofage, and the enzyme itself had already been identified in previous studies.

The reversal enzyme makes RNA into an enzyme-type DNA. The clue was the array related to the repetitive pattern next to the enzyme’s genes.

Non-code DNA and associated proteins are characteristic of the enzyme system.

Claude found that the repeat areas associated with the reverse enzyme consisted of the DNA sequence that did not code the protein.

Anthropic describes repeat array arrangements as suggesting CRISPR. This similarity relates to array arrangements and does not indicate the function of the enzyme system found.

Identified as ART in additional analysis and experimentation

Following additional analysis by human researchers and laboratory experiments, Anthropic identified this composition as an undisclosed enzyme system present in bacteriophages, named array-associated reverse transcriptases (ART).

The main functions of ART are not yet known. This time it was identified as a combination of known reversal enzymes and repeat areas and associated proteins.
